I Thought I Was Waiting on the Lord

I found myself so incredibly annoyed with the Lord recently.

A friend was going to come over for a visit. She said she had to wrap something up and then she would be over. So I waited. And waited. And broke out my phone to scroll. And waited.

And finally I was like, “Lord, I hate waiting!”

And He said, “I know.”

He said, “Since you don’t know when she’s going to show up, you don’t do anything but scroll on your phone because you don’t want to be interrupted in the middle of something. And you don’t know how much you can get done while you wait so you don’t do anything. You just sit and scroll instead of doing something – anything.”

He said, “You do this when you’re waiting on me, too. You don’t know when I’m going to do X for you. When I’ll bring a resource or provision to you. When I’ll tell you to do something. Since you don’t know all the details or the timeline, you don’t move. You just sit.”

He said, ‘While you’re waiting, I need you to keep moving. Waiting is not a stationary activity. Waiting is active. And while you’re actively waiting, you can be active in your life, in your ministry, too. So move. Do the things you know to do. Take a step. Move forward. But stop standing still.”

And He’s so right because that IS what I do. I don’t know when something will happen and I don’t wanna get halfway through a task and get interrupted so I just sit on my hands and do nothing. And when has the Lord ever told us to do nothing? Even rest is productive. But just sitting like a statue? Not productive. Not moving anything forward.

So if you can relate to this, I encourage you to move today. Whatever you’re waiting on the Lord for, He still wants you to move while you wait on Him.

Believe that He IS going to show up and do what he says He’s going to do because He is who he says He is. And get moving.
